Please find a notification on uniform attached and note that black jeans (as well as the listed trouser types) and hoodies are not acceptable. Black shoes must be worn and trainers are not acceptable. We will continue to be vigilant in ensuring our learners wear their uniform correctly to engender a feeling of community and sense of belonging.

Pupils in Year5/6 of Queen Street Campus had the opportunity to work with students from the University of South Wales, Cardiff Campus.

May 09, 2018

Pupils in Year5/6 of Queen Street Campus had the opportunity to work with students from the University of South Wales, Cardiff Campus.

Chloe Merdith a student at the university and former pupil of Roseheyworth Primary and Abertillery Comprehensive explained, ' We had a project based on The War of the Worlds radio drama by H.G. Wells, and we had to use this idea to create something interactive. Therefore, we put together an interactive lesson for the pupils in which they would help us to investigate aliens coming to Earth. We would also teach them a bit about the media industry by allowing them to try out some equipment themselves.'

Queen Street learners said it was awesome and have invited the students back to help with other media projects. They would like to thank the  students  Chloe Meredith, Elizaveta Jasnova, Josh Thomas and Amy Jones for such a fun activity.

The university students have put a short film together;

British Gas Visit 27 March 2018 Inspire 2 Achieve and Careers Wales

May 02, 2018

Careers Wales arranged a joint visit to British Gas training Academy in Tredegar for Abertillery, Brynmawr and Ebbw Fawr groups, supported by Rachel from Inspire to Achieve and Matthew from Careers Wales. Courtney, Greg, Jodie, Katy and Mackenzie all attended the day. At the visit the students got to hear what the job opportunities are within British Gas, and also had a tour of the training academy. They train gas, plumbing and heating apprentices there and the training area features fully functioning heating installations, energy efficient and microgeneration technologies which are housed in specially designed bungalows. They also had both single brick and cavity wall construction through to less common timber framed properties.

The students also got to see how the Hive system works which is a part of British Gas innovation smart products which were linked to Alexa so the students had fun giving Alexa their commands! Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t as good as in the photo, but the ALC students were complimented on their great behaviour (exemplary on the bus to and from the centre as well) and also scored the most points in the manufacturing challenge! Well done guys!
